Choose a metallised textile
Metallised textiles incorporate an aluminium nano-layer to prevent heat from building up in summer or escaping in winter, regardless the colour of the textile. This ability avoids the need for heating and cooling, bringing significant CO2 savings - which outweigh the environmental impact of the aluminium.
Choose a non-metallised textile
Design textiles do not incorporate an aluminium nano-layer, and their performance is colour dependent. Some colours will be able to provide control over heating, cooling and therefore energy-efficiency - but not to the same degree as high performance metallised textiles. Athos, our healthcare textile, can be disinfected and is easy to maintain and therefore particularly suitable for healthcare establishments.

In our carbon neutrality calculations we take into account both the embodied carbon from the products and the savings on operational carbon from the building, leading to a breakeven point where the product is carbon neutral. The embodied carbon of our roller blind system is calculated per dimension of product, including all different componentry, textile and shipping emissions.
The CO2 savings on heating and cooling are based on the added performance of a textile compared to no textile. Yearly CO2 savings are therefore determined through the calculation of heat loss and solar heat gain difference, considering a wide variety of parameters.
Consequently, your results estimate how long it will take for your Kvadrat Shade solution to reach the carbon neutrality break-even point, as well as illustrating the potential CO2 savings for your project up to this stage.
